American Humane Presents Peninsula Pet Pantry with Feed the Hungry Grant

May 19, 2020American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that the Peninsula Pet Pantry is a recipient of American Humane’s Feed the Hungry grant. Located in Yorktown, Virginia, the Peninsula Pet Pantry provides temporary pet food and supplies, as well as resource referral services, to help keep pets with their owners and out of animal shelters and humane groups.

“We want to say a gigantic thank you to American Humane,” said Michelle Wilkinson, Director of the Peninsula Pet Pantry. “We strive to keep animals out of shelters and humane groups, and at home where they belong. We do this be proving food, supplies and medical care to responsible pet owners who are experiencing financial crisis. The majority of our clients are seniors or disabled individuals, but with the appearance of COVID-19, our client base has quadrupled in less than two months. This grant has allowed us to continue our mission, and for that we are extremely grateful because for our beloved pets, there truly is no place like home.”

The Peninsula Pet Pantry is a nonprofit organization, formed in 2010, by a group of animal lovers who felt that a dedicated organization offering support to animal caregivers with limited resources was desperately needed in the Hampton Roads community. The all-volunteer group is dedicated to helping responsible owners keep pets at home, by providing food and supplies to local clients via a monthly distribution. The team advises clients on food assistance and animal nutrition, affordable spay/neuter clinics, vaccination options, vet care choices, licensing and more. Since 2010, the Peninsula Pet Pantry estimates that it has assisted more than 5500 pets and their families.
