American Humane Presents PAWS Humane Society with Feed the Hungry Grant

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, April 28, 2020American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that PAWS Humane Society received a grant from American Humane’s Feed the Hungry fund. Located in Rockford, Illinois, PAWS Humane Society promotes, supports and provides for the humane treatment and welfare of animals in Winnebago County and the surrounding areas.

“We would like to thank American Humane for the grant funding that they provided to us,” said Sue Golan, Executive Director of PAWS Humane Society. “It has allowed us to buy a lot of cat litter which we were in very short supply of due to the decline in our donations during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

PAWS Humane Society, a volunteer organization supported by donations, was founded in 1988 as a spay/neuter assistance operation. It has since grown into a full-service humane society, even reaching into the public school systems to educate future animal owners. The shelter provides low-cost spay/neuter services to reduce pet overpopulation and its resulting cruelty, assists in finding homes for adoptable animals, and provides humane education materials and programs to the community. In 2018, PAWS funded the spay/neuter of over 1,800 dogs and cats and placed almost 650 animals in new homes. PAWS also steps in to help animals in emergencies – the team took in cats and dogs as part of relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey, and is now helping the community with the impact of the current pandemic.

To help shelters continue to save lives during this unprecedented crisis, consider donating today. Learn more at www.americanhumane.org/feedthehungry.
