WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, June 23, 2020 — American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that Lost Our Home Pet Rescue received a grant from American Humane’s Feed the Hungry fund. Located in Tempe, Arizona, Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is a no-kill shelter that saves abandoned pets and is committed to ensuring they get the care they need and the new loving homes they deserve.
“With the Feed the Hungry grant, Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is able to feed thousands of pets coming into our shelter in a multitude of ways,” said Josie Gaieck, Communication Manager at Lost Our Home Pet Rescue. “Not only do we have pet food for cats and dogs waiting for adoption, but we are able to help those that might be struggling to get from paycheck to paycheck and to get their pets their next meal. And for folks that are utilizing our 90-day temporary care program while they recover from things such as illness, homelessness and domestic violence, your support is able to keep those pets fed. Thanks American Humane.”
Lost Our Home Pet Rescue was founded in 2008 as a grassroots response to the housing crisis that left thousands of people displaced and thousands of pets abandoned. Pets were abandoned in foreclosed homes, often without food or water. Others were forced into shelters—their owners having no other choice. With the second highest foreclosure rates, and the second highest shelter-euthanasia rates, Maricopa County was experiencing a crisis and no existing service was designed to address the needs of both people and pets. Lost Our Home Pet Rescue quickly expanded to offer additional programs for pets and pet parents facing other life crises too, including temporary care, a food bank, pet rescue, low-income boarding and more. With 1,025 of the 1,352 animals taken in during 2019 adopted, Lost Our Home Pet Rescue has made a significant impact on the community, and continued to provide support throughout the pandemic.
