American Humane Celebrates Blue Sky Family Farms for Excellent Animal Welfare

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, October 5, 2020 — Egg Innovations, an American Humane CertifiedTM egg farm in Indiana announced the rollout of their new Blue Sky Family Farms egg carton packaging, which includes the American Humane CertifiedTM logo.

“Ethically-minded consumers searching for products from farms that abide by humane standards will easily be able to identify Blue Sky Family Farms thanks to the American Humane CertifiedTM logo,” said Robin R. Ganzert, PhD, President and CEO of American Humane. “More importantly, we’re happy for what that logo symbolizes – that laying hens raised on Blue Sky Family Farms are raised in accordance with science and evidence-based welfare standards.”

American Humane CertifiedTM provides third-party, independent verification that certified producers’ care and handling of farm animals meets science-based animal welfare standards. The guidelines by which farmers are assessed were developed and are regularly reviewed by an independent scientific advisory committee comprised of leading experts in the fields of agriculture, species-specific animal behavior, and ethics.

Founded in 2000, the American Humane Farm Program is the country’s first and largest independent, third-party farm animal welfare certification program. Producers who meet the more than 200 science and evidence-based humane standards are awarded the American Humane CertifiedTM seal.

“As people across the country focus on their food’s origin and journey to grocery store shelves, we hope that more farms and ranches commit to science-based, quality animal welfare,” said Dr. Ganzert.

Certified farmers create an environment that fosters the mental and physical wellbeing of animals by providing, among other things, appropriate space, lighting, air quality, food and water to their animals.
