American Humane and Chicken Soup for the Soul Serve Up a Heaping Helping of Pet Food to Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA

The Organizations Donated and Delivered 3,741 Pounds of Pet Food to the California Shelter

Today, American Humane and Chicken Soup for the Soul made a very special delivery—the two organizations worked together to present the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, in Pasadena, CA, with 3,741 pounds of premium, all-natural Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food.

The donation, which is the second of two shipments, is part of an ambitious new national campaign called “Fill-a-Bowl…Feed-a-Soul™” to distribute one million donated meals to shelter pets around the country waiting for their forever homes. Since its launch, the campaign has provided more than half a million pounds of Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food to U.S. shelters, which house and care for millions of animals each year.

The campaign’s first shipment was in September 2016, when 80,000 pounds of food was sent to help the animal victims of flood-devastated Louisiana. The American Humane Rescue team, which was on the ground in Livingston Parish—where an estimated 75% of all homes were destroyed—coordinated the distribution of the donated pet food to help the countless lost, frightened and hungry animals who were found wandering among wreckage caused by the floods.

Today’s delivery to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA will go toward the non-profit’s Helping Paws program, which is dedicated to providing services and resources to help families keep their pets.

“The donated pet food will enable us to keep our pet food bank stocked for months, providing a critical service to pet owners in need throughout our community,” said Julie Bank, president and CEO of the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA.

“This campaign helps animals when they need help most,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane. “On behalf of all the beloved pets across the country, a big thank-you to our friends at Chicken Soup for the Soul!”

American Humane and Chicken Soup for the Soul have collaborated many times in the past in support of our nation’s animals. The two organizations collectively published two books, Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Very Good, Very Bad Dog and Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Very Good, Very Bad Cat, in 2016, with forewords authored by Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane.

Chicken Soup for the Soul’s publisher and editor-in-chief Amy Newmark said, “We’re pleased that we can provide assistance to animals in need and we are glad to be partnering with American Humane in this vital campaign.”
