American Humane Presents Angels of Assisi with Feed the Hungry Grant

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, May 13, 2020American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, today announced that Angels of Assisi is a recipient of American Humane’s Feed the Hungry grant. Located in Roanoke, Virginia, Angels of Assisi is changing the role of an animal shelter to include resources, programs, and services to benefit the pets in its communities and the people who love them.

“With the funds, we are able to buy food for the pets of our community to help keep more families together,” said April Saunders, Director of Adoptions for Angels of Assisi.

Angels of Assisi is an independent, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Southwest Virginia and West Virginia. Along with its Adoption Center and Farm Sanctuary, it offers a Community Pet Hospital, Rural Veterinary Care, Cruelty Investigations, Disaster Response, and a Safety Net Program for those needing temporary help due to domestic violence or emergency situations. The shelter has rescued 1,750 animals from abuse and neglect and placed 25,000 animals into loving homes. It has supplied 125,000 spay and neuter surgeries and 80,000 low-cost wellness visits. Angels of Assisi was selected as a recipient of the Feed the Hungry grant due to its dedication to helping animals throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and year-round.
